Dunmanway Family Resource Centre: Carer’s & Older Persons Development Worker


CARER’S AND OLDER PERSONS DEVELOPMENT WORKER WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT
LIMITED TO:

* To work closely with the Co-ordinator and the voluntary management
committee to implement an agreed work plan for support of Carer’s
and Older persons
* To identify the needs of older persons and carers in the local
area & develop local initiatives to meet those needs
* To work in partnership with other community and voluntary sector
organisations, Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, HSE and other key
stakeholders as appropriate to support Carers and Older persons &
develop joint initiatives.
* To network & develop and support effective links which advance the
health equity, and the engagement of Carer’s and Older Persons in
relevant community & social initiatives
* To develop, deliver & support a broad range of community
initiatives for both carers and older persons especially those who are
socially isolated and disadvantaged, according to local need.
* To implement & further develop relevant initiatives from elsewhere
that are relevant and meet local need e.g. Dementia café, Singing for
the Brain
* To promote peer support, and engagement of older persons and
carers in the development and running of initiatives where appropriate
* To promote and enhance, through these initiatives positive ageing,
good nutrition and mental and physical health
* To advocate for Carers and Older Persons as relevant
* To signpost & refer Carers and Older Persons into relevant
services for information and support e.g. Citizens Information,
Education and Training Board, Family Carers Ireland.
* To identify funding opportunities to support activities and source
other funds_ _relevant to carers and/ or older persons, make
applications and liaise with funding agencies
* To document the work with written reports and feedback on
activities.
* To attend and participate in supervision on a regular basis
* To evaluate the work as required
* To document and escalate issues related to safeguarding vulnerable
adults
* Evening work and occasional weekend work will be required.

*The term carers is used as a broad term to mean those providing care
for family/ friends in a non-professional capacity such as for people
with a disability and/ or older people

PERSON SPECIFICATION

* A relevant 3rd level qualification minimum Level 7 in Community
Work, Community Health, Community Development or related field with 2
years post qualification experience.
OR
* Candidates with exceptional relevant paid work experience for a
minimum of 3 years may be considered in lieu of qualification. This
paid work experience must be specifically in a relevant
Carer’s/Older person’s support and development role where the
candidate delivered on all areas of the Job specification details.

CANDIDATES WILL ALSO NEED TO DEMONSTRATE:

* A good working knowledge and experience of community development
and/or community health
* A good working knowledge and experience of the issues & challenges
facing older persons and carers & ways to support them
* An awareness of policy and procedures around safeguarding
vulnerable adults
* An understanding of social inclusion and providing programmes that
support health and wellbeing.
* Experience of working in partnerships and building relationships
with community, voluntary and statutory agencies.
* Experience of planning and delivering programmes, activities and
or services to groups and capacity to deliver these programmes in a
timely manner.
* Demonstrate a good capacity to develop and maintain relationships
with carers and older people.
* Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrate an ability to work on own initiative and with teams.
* Excellent time management skills and good computer literacy
* Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
* A knowledge and understanding of rural communities and the needs
of carers and older persons in rural areas.
* Experience of facilitating groups and providing one-to-one support
* A full clean drivers licence and access to own transport.
* Garda Vetting is applicable to this position

DETAILS OF THE POST:

* The post is * hours per week
* The candidate will be appointed Pro Rata on the Community Health
Worker Salary scale (aligned to HSE Social Care Worker with
qualification).
* This post is permanent, subject to funding.
* This post is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
